Beginning in with the Eagle and Silver Beaver square knots, BSA began making square knots with dark green backgrounds to match the Explorer uniform. Shortly after, they also included with the dark green backgrounds, the Scouter's Key and Scouter's Training Award knots. These knots were in addition to the khaki background knots that they continued to make.

In March ofthe Boy Scouts of America announced the first six square knot awards. These awards were to replace the ribbon bars that were being earned at the time. The list of knots has continued to grow. Some knots have been discontinued and others have been added.

Together with the support of the Council and Principal Chief Bill John Baker, all Cherokee boys in Scouts will be able to earn the right to wear this knot in honor of our culture and history.

The requirements for this recognition, as given on the On My Honor Adult Recognition application card item no. He may have a clerk order the recognition directly from Church Distribution Services. The recognition may be presented by a member of the bishopric at a Scout court of honor or other appropriate setting.

The Veteran Award is an adult recognition. However, tenure earned as a youth may be included in the total number of years registered. Service in Scouting organizations other than the Boy Scouts of America does not count toward veteran recognition.
